Thailand is no longer the open cannabis market it was between 2022 and mid-2025. Since late June 2025 cannabis flower is sold for medical use only: you need a prescription from a licensed medical professional, and a shop may not sell to a walk-in customer without one.

## What changed in 2025

The Ministry of Public Health issued the announcement *Controlled Herb (Cannabis), B.E. 2568 (2025)*. According to the Government Public Relations Department, the new rules took effect on 26 June 2025:

- **Prescription only.** Medical access requires an authorized prescription, limited to a 30-day supply.
- **Licensed professionals only.** Patients obtain cannabis through a licensed medical professional; sales are limited to doctors and licensed medical professionals.
- **No vending machines, no online sales.**
- **No advertising** of cannabis in any form.
- **No sales near sensitive places** such as temples, dormitories, public parks, zoos and fun parks.

## What it means for a visitor in 2026

- A shop with a cannabis sign is not a place where a tourist can simply buy. Without a prescription from a licensed professional, a purchase is outside the rules.
- A prescription covers at most a 30-day supply.
- Online and vending-machine sales are not allowed, so a delivery offer is not a legal route.
- Rules on possession, public use and taking cannabis across a border are separate questions — see the Thailand guide on 420.camp for the current rule on each, with its source and review date.
