Before visiting a club

  1. Find a club nearby and open its listing for the address and contact.
  2. Ask the club whether you can join, what its minimum age is, and whether an introduction or appointment is needed.
  3. Confirm the ID to bring, membership fee and opening hours before setting off.
  4. Ask what is available to members and whether on-site use is permitted. The club decides whether to admit you.

Dutch coffeeshops and the wietpas: can tourists buy in 2026?

The Netherlands uses a coffeeshop model: selling cannabis remains formally illegal but is officially tolerated when the rules are followed, and ten municipalities run a controlled-supply experiment. You must be 18+ with ID, and can buy up to 5 g per purchase/day. Tourist access depends on the municipality — Breda, Heerlen and Maastricht apply a residence criterion.

Tolerated: Buying cannabis from a licensed coffeeshop is formally still an offense, but under the Dutch 'gedoogbeleid' toleration policy it is not prosecuted when the rules are met (18+, valid ID, maximum 5g per purchase/day). Ten municipalities run a controlled-supply experiment. Conditions: Minimum age 18+. Last reviewed 2026-08-30.

How do you buy cannabis legally in the Netherlands?

Be 18+ with ID and buy up to 5 g per day at a coffeeshop; check the municipality, since some (Breda, Heerlen, Maastricht) require Dutch residence.
